How do you teach meditation?
Updated: Aug 10, 2018
Just simply sitting still for 20 minutes and emptying your thoughts is pretty much impossible. Not to mention self defeating and frustrating. We have upwards of 50,000 thoughts a day. To simply shut that down for 20 minutes…. well if you can do that you really don’t need to continue reading this blog!
What I have learned is tools and tricks for redirecting your focus to come back to a place of quietness that gives your brain a much needed break.
You are actually calming down the part of your brain that really wants to over react (the flight or flight response) and you are strengthening the part that gives you reason and understanding (the rest and digest response). Wow!!! This could really work!
I saw these subtle changes in myself but now actually understood why. I went from being an “oblivious meditator” to a “smart meditator”!! I was so happy it worked but once I learned why…. well my whole world shifted into a “WOW!” place. Science, for the first time in my life was completely fascinating!
Just learning about neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to continue to grow, change and become more flexible) and the changes to the brain thru meditation was like throwing open the doors of Disneyland with a free private pass! I just could not wait to share this with anyone and everyone who would listen! So yes, it confirmed that I wanted to be a teacher and educate people on the wonders of the brain and importantly, that age does not matter. You can strengthen and grow your brain at any stage of your life….
And really “What could be more exciting than that?!”
